What is an Immersion blender and Which One is the Best?

What Is an Immersion Blender

An immersion blender, sometimes called a hand blender, is one in which the blades can be submerged into the items being blended. They can be used in a pot while you are cooking or in a bowl to make things like whipped cream, sauces, soups, even ice cream or frozen yogurt. Immersion blenders may not be able to do all of the same tasks that a regular blender can do but they do have some advantages over regular blenders.

Some Pros and Cons of Immersion Blenders

One drawback to an immersion blender is that you will not be able to chop large pieces of food very easily because unlike a regular blender the blades are not in the bottom of the container that allows gravity to pull the pieces back down into the blades repeatedly until you reach the desired consistency. With an immersion blender you are putting the blade into the item to be blended from the top and you are usually doing this in a bowl or a pot that would allow room for larger items to move around a lot making it very difficult to blend these types of things.

There are a number of advantages to immersion blenders however. One big advantage is that they are small so they take up less counter space or can be stored away very easily in a cabinet. An immersion blender also makes the whole cooking process a lot easier. You won’t need to use as many containers because you can mix things right in the bowl you are preparing them in or even in the pot you are cooking them in, you won’t need to transfer food from one container to another. If you are cooking a large pot of soup you can blend all of the soup while it is in the pot rather than blending multiple batches with a regular blender.

Cleanup is also much easier with an immersion blender. Usually the only part that will need to be cleaned is the blades and the end of the unit. Some models even let you detach the end to be hand washed or even washed in a dishwasher.

What Is the Best Immersion Blender on the Market?

It’s very difficult to answer that question because everyone is different. Different makes and models come in different sizes and have different features and certain features are more appealing to some people than others. To help you find the best immersion blender it would be a good idea to go online and conduct a little research. The Internet allows you to compare makes and models of many different brands very quickly. You can also read reviews from customers that have used a particular model and find out what people like about it and what people don’t like about it.

The important features to look for in an immersion blender are:

  • Power – Get one that is up to the task if you puree a lot of soups and vegetables
  • Cord or Cordless? – Cordless models sound like a great idea but they tend to be less powerful than the models with cord
  • Design – The immersion blender should feel good in your grip and the cord should not get in your way
  • Attachments – Decide if you really need some of the attachments that come with some models. Realistically, a hand blender chopping blade is not going to do the work of a standard food processor
  • Clean Up – Ease of cleaning under warm water right in the sink is an advantage of using an immersion blender. Newer models comes with detachable shafts that are dishwasher safe

Some of the immersion blenders that are getting really good reviews online and can also be purchased at an affordable price are from KitchenAid. KitchenAid has a long history and a good reputation of making quality kitchen products and their immersion blenders are both affordable and high-quality.
