When it comes to blenders you’re going to have a wide variety to choose from. While it may seem confusing at first, once you learn a bit more about blenders you’ll know exactly which one is best for your kitchen. Today immersion blenders and tower blenders are the most popular types of blenders available. Each one comes with its own set of benefits but the tower blender is usually the preferred choice.
Immersion blenders
An immersion blender or hand blender is used when you want to mix the ingredients in the same bowl that you’re going to be using to serve the mixture. A narrow glass or a large bowl can be used as the carafe for an immersion blender.
While this sounds great in theory, in many cases the food will start flying everywhere once you turn on the blender. When you’re working with an immersion blender, you’ll need to fight off food particles that are constantly heading your way. An immersion blender will often spray ice or food onto the cupboards or floor when you are using it on the countertop.
The other problem with immersion blenders is the blades are out in the open and can be quite dangerous especially if children are trying to handle the appliance. In fact, children should not be allowed to use this type of blender at all.
Immersion blenders won’t be able to produce a thick spread or a nut butter. Tower blenders are much stronger and can handle much more heat than an immersion type. Also, you may not be able to make a smoothie the way you’d like it and you may not get your ice crushed enough unless you use a tower blender.

Tower blenders
Tower blenders, also known as counter-top blenders, use a closed system, which means that once you close the lid the liquids cannot escape. It is a safer and cleaner way to blend food. Also, the blades are not exposed on a tower blender like they are with a hand blender. The only time that the blades are open to the air is when the carafe has been opened. This means that children can operate this appliance under supervision.
Tower blenders are a versatile machine that can create sauces and purées easily along with nut butters and any other hard mixtures. They have more horsepower than immersion blenders and get the job done faster. The tower blender is the winner when you consider cleanliness, versatility and safety in the kitchen. It is usually the right choice to make when you are considering the different types of blenders.
